Between Past and Present offers a unique, introspective journey through the evolving cultural and social fabric of Qatar, as seen through the nuanced and vibrant language of pastel.
Between Past and Present, a compelling group exhibition showcasing the work of artists based in Qatar who explore the rich expressive potential of pastel as a medium.
Often celebrated for its richness, versatility, and quiet power, pastel is traditionally associated with portraiture, landscape, and impressionist art. In this exhibition, the selected artists reimagine pastel as a bridge, connecting generations, visual aesthetics, and cultural narratives within Qatari life.
Each artist contributes two works, ranging in size from 40 to 70 centimetres. While intimate in scale, these pieces make powerful visual statements that balance fine detail with broad impression. Together, they evoke the complex textures of Qatari life, drawing on heritage and symbolism, rapid social transformation, and the deeply personal ways individuals navigate between memory and modernity.
