Between Memory and Myth: An online exhibition featuring Syrian artist Ali Ali

Artsy 4 - 16 August 2025
Artsy

In this online exhibition, Syrian artist Ali Ali—invites viewers into a visual world where memory, myth, and imagination converge. Born in Al Hassake, Syria in 1974 and now based in Coruña, Spain, Ali Ali is a painter and printmaker whose work draws deeply from the oral and visual traditions of the Arab world.
His compositions, often dreamlike and surreal, feature wide-eyed figures, warm earth tones, and suspended, contextless spaces that evoke a sense of wonder tinged with melancholy. Through these elements, Ali Ali explores the fragmented nature of memory—particularly childhood recollections—and the emotional aftershocks of war and displacement. Trained in engraving at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus and further refined through international residencies in Spain, his work marries technical mastery with poetic storytelling.
Exhibited across Syria, Latin America, Japan, and the Middle East, Ali Ali's work speaks a quiet but resonant language, one shaped by longing, resilience, and the boundless terrain of the imagination.

This exhibition will run from 4 August - 16 August
