Hind Al Obaidli Qatar, b. 1984

Hind Al-Obaidli is a Qatari artist whose work explores the human form through a combination of oil painting, photography, and sculpture. Beginning her artistic journey in childhood with a focus on portraiture, Hind developed a fascination with the human body, a theme that remains central to her practice. Early in her career, she explored expression, gesture, and the interplay of light and shadow, laying the groundwork for the techniques she would refine in later years.
Hind pursued architecture at Oxford Brookes University, where she earned both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Her architectural background profoundly influences her art, infusing it with precision and a complex relationship between the human figure and its environment. Her work often blurs the boundaries between physical and abstract spaces, adding depth to her exploration of the body.
At the core of Hind’s practice is the examination of the human body and its transformation within different environments. Her work deconstructs and reimagines the body in states of flux, often through elements such as water and light, addressing themes of identity, vulnerability, and the passage of time. Through her immersive and evocative works, Hind seeks to provoke an emotional response from the viewer, rather than merely offering visual observation.
A central motif in Hind's art is the tension between abstraction and realism. Her photographic series, which captures the human body submerged underwater, emphasizes the contrast between the tangible human form and the abstract qualities of water and light. By fragmenting the body, Hind challenges traditional ideas of beauty and completeness, instead presenting the body as a dynamic, evolving entity that reflects the complexities of the human condition. Her work invites dialogue on themes of imperfection, transformation, and the relationship between the individual and their environment.
Hind was a participant in the Doha Fire Station Art Residency Program (AIR 7) from 2022 to 2023 and has exhibited in numerous significant shows, including Visual Narratives (2022), From-to (Water/Sky/Land) (2022), Convergence (2023), The Present: The Future of the Past (2023), The Sky the Moon Lost (2023), The Fables in Fashion exhibition by Qatar Reads (2024), Source – Part 2 (2024), and Al Jadeed Action by Albahie (2024).
Hind holds a Master of Architecture (MArch) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture from Oxford Brookes University (2012), a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the same institution (2007), and completed the Foundation of Architectural Engineering at the University of Leeds (2004). Her dual practice as both an architect and an artist informs a nuanced perspective on the body, space, and transformation in her work.
