Maryam Mohammed Abdulla Qatar, b. 1961

Maryam Mohammed Abdulla is a distinguished Qatari artist with a unique blend of scientific and artistic backgrounds. Initially studying geology, she earned a Bachelor’s degree from Qatar University before pursuing graduate studies at Ain Shams University in Cairo. However, her passion for the arts led her to join the Qatari Free Atelier under the Department of Culture and Arts, where she refined her artistic skills.
Maryam's artistic journey began with pencil drawing, where she explored tonal variations and perspectives. She later discovered chalk pastels, a medium that became a defining part of her artistic style. With pastels, she was able to bridge the gap between drawing and oil painting, experimenting with vibrant colors, color harmony, and figure studies. Her early works primarily depicted traditional Qatari scenes, such as goldsmiths, falconers, seafront views, and storytelling gatherings, capturing the essence of Qatar’s heritage.
Her passion for Qatari culture and traditions is evident in many of her works, including "Pearl Diving," "Natural Landscapes," "Old Alleyways," "Elderly Faces," and "Still Life with Local Elements." Through these pieces, Maryam continues to celebrate the rich history and culture of Qatar, making a significant contribution to the country's artistic landscape.
