Mubarak Al Thani Qatar, b. 1989

Mubarak Nasser Al-Thani is a self-taught artist whose childhood sketches brought him into a world outside his daily studies, where lines and forms caught his fascination. He later went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, Washington DC, in the School of Foreign Service, and a master’s degree in urban planning from New York University in the United States.

In his developing artistic practice, he uses colour and geometric form to capture both abstraction and literal expressionism to convey the energy of cities and their skylines, expanding to further subjects such as culture, history and politics.

Al-Thani now works for the Education Above All Foundation, which is involved in the protection and provision of education worldwide. He also worked as an officer in the United Nations from 2013 until 2017. He completed an artist in residency at Doha Fire Station in 2018. Al-Thani has exhibited in Doha, New York and St Petersburg and has also been featured in a number of group shows internationally.
