Ali Ali Syria, b. 1974

Originally from Syria, Ali Ali is a painter and printmaker whose work draws deeply on the visual and oral traditions of the Arab world. He graduated in 1998 from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus, specializing in engraving, and represented Syria at the Estampa Fair in Spain in 2002.

In 2003, he received a scholarship to join the I Master Prints Program at the CIEC Foundation in Betanzos, Spain where he lived for a year before moving to his current residence in Coruña, Spain. Ali Ali’s dreamlike compositions, marked by warm colors, wide-eyed figures, and contextless backdrops explore childhood memories, fantasy, and the impact of war. His work has been exhibited across in Syria, Latin America, Spain, the Middle East, and Japan, including at the International Triennial of Contemporary Art Prints (Japan) and the “Al Mahabba” Biennial (Syria).
