The Gestalt Principles are foundational concepts in psychology and design that explain how humans naturally perceive, group, and organize visual information. Rooted in Gestalt psychology, these principles highlight that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, shaping how we interpret patterns, forms, and relationships in our everyday environment.
This workshop introduces participants to the core Gestalt principles—proximity, similarity, continuity, closure, figure-ground, symmetry, and common fate—and demonstrates how they can be applied across art, design, communication, and education.
By engaging in interactive activities, participants will not only learn the theory behind each principle but also practice applying them to real-world examples such as graphic design, branding, photography, and spatial arrangement.
The workshop aims to foster an awareness of visual perception that empowers participants to:
  • Recognize how people instinctively group and interpret visual elements.

  • Apply Gestalt principles to create clearer, more engaging, and more impactful visual compositions.

  • Develop a sharper eye for design choices that influence meaning, emotion, and user experience.

Through a combination of short lectures, hands-on exercises, and group discussions, this workshop provides a practical and creative approach to understanding how perception shapes design and communication.
