Amira Behbehani Kuwait, 1964

Born in Kuwait 1964. Amira Behbehani is a self-taught Kuwaiti artist who began painting between 2001 and 2003. In 2011, she joined international organization "Peace One Day," and in 2013 she was appointed as ambassador of the World Peace Marker Project (WPMP) in Kuwait. She later became a member of the organization "Abolish 153" in 2015. Behbehani is considered a prominent artist in Kuwait, combining her artistic practice with charitable work, striving to promote peace and equality through her art. Behbehani began her artistic journey by learning from the Algerian artist Hamza Bounoua in 2001. She held her first solo exhibition in 2004 at Dar Al-Funoon titled "Teacher and the Apprentice." Her most recent solo exhibitions in Kuwait include "Seeking Refuge" at 2022, and "A Fifteen Year Journey, The Art of Amira Behbehani” 2017 both at Contemporary Art Platform (CAP), and "The Eternal Ta’a" at Dar Al-Funoon in Kuwait 2016. She also participated in a charitable exhibition to fund the Hayatt Charity Foundation in Kuwait 2012. Behbehani has also participated in several group exhibitions, the most recent of which include

Her works have been exhibited in various countries, including the "Al-Waqif" exhibition for Arab women artists in Qatar 2008, Dar Al-Funoon for Bait Abdullah 20 x 30 cm in Kuwait 2008, and the Institut du Monde Arab in Paris 2006. Amira Behbehani is also the recipient of the Arab Women Award in Kuwait 2016, and the Artist Achievement Award from Layalina 2012.
